Checkmate Construction founder Norman Wilson is a second-generation contractor. He moved to Ocala in 1976 to work in the equine industry, breaking two-year-old horses. He became a trainer, and later manager at some of Marion County’s largest horse farms, including the legendary Wycombe House Stud, home to 1996 Preakness Winner Louis Quatorze. Norman and his wife Liz also run their own farm, with about 50 horses.
Checkmate Construction opened in 1999 providing quality, budget friendly remodeling and new site builds in the equestrian community. They work closley with both the architect on each project and the homehowners to provide a superior construction experience.
